PolDeC
operates
in four program areas – Development Policy Resource
and Documentation, Research and Training, Engender
Development Policies and Development Initiatives,
Information Sharing and Advocacy.
|
|
Gender
Development Policies and Development Initiatives
|
|
Women
are very often socialized towards careers that exclude
them from the decision-making tables on development
policy and development programs. They are
consequently marginalized from charting development.
Therefore, to foster the inclusion of gender
perspectives in development policymaking and
development program design, PolDeC critically
examines development policies and development programs
and programming through ‘gender lenses’. In
addition, PolDeC provides gender platforms that
give equality of opportunities for the inclusion of
female voices and participation in decision-making.

Development
Policy Resource, Research and Documentation
|
|
To
serve as the Nigerian development policy cum
development initiatives resource and research center,
providing relevant policy advocacy, policy and
development training for the purpose of promoting
focused and appropriate sustainable human and national
development,
PolDeC collects development policies,
development initiatives and development paradigm
shifts as well as development resources (books, CDs,
videos, documentaries) for archiving in the Policy and
Development Resource and reference Center. This
collection serves
as review and reference materials for development
policy research and reference for the purpose of
fostering development policy coherence and integration
in sustainable human and national development
initiatives.
PolDeC
also researches, analyses development policies,
development programs and programming, development
paradigm shifts, best practices in policy issues,
development initiatives and their impact on human and
national development. The objective is to
mainstream/integrate global best practices that are
appropriate and relevant to Nigeria into Nigeria’s
development policy making and programming.
In
addition, PolDeC’s resource and documentation
center also provides technical assistance to advocates
and institutions as well as research consultancies
under this program.

Training
|
|
The
process of development policy formulation and
implementation should involve knowledgeable and broad
participation of all development stakeholders –
government agencies, communities, women, youths and
CSOs. This is to foster sufficient understanding of
the issues and consequently adequate identification of
the needs of all stakeholders in the development
process. This process not only equips policy
makers with accurate information to meeting the needs
of all stakeholders in formulating development
policies and development programs, but also provides a
platform for strengthening up the capacity and
knowledge base of the citizenry/development
stakeholders on development policies and development
programs at the global, national, community/local
level.
PolDeC
therefore
provides technical support, information and training
for development stakeholders. In addition, the
capacities of communities are built up to participate
in development policy making and decision making as
well as equipped to run initiatives that benefit them.
Development
stakeholders here refer to government agencies,
communities, women and youths.

Information
and Sharing Advocacy
|
|
Through
publications, networking and collaborations with other
development organizations, PolDeC shares
national and global development policies, thinking and
practices in development, development paradigm shifts
and best practices in the development sector.
PolDeC
also equips communities with the capacity to advocate
for themselves and to mobilize as a collective.
Advocacy here is also geared at gender mainstreaming
and inclusion in development policy making and
programming. In addition, PolDeC advocates for
development policies that enhance sustainable human
and national development as well as serve the national
interest of Nigeria.
